Community Education

Community Education is an area where Social Entrepreneur Corps has created two separate social innovations in order to best support and serve our local constituents.



Para La ComunidadParalacomunidad (For the Community) (PLC) is a Social Entrepreneur Corps social innovation. PLC is a web-based informational resource and organizational database launching in Guatemala, Ecuador and Nicaragua that encourages collaboration and provides access to practical how-to articles. Profiles are collected from local organizations to be posted online and training workshops on PLC topics such as education, health, technology and business are delivered at the request of local communities.

Typical beneficiaries:
Cooperatives, education centers, health clinics, libraries, artisan associations, urban and rural communities



Recent Examples:
Guatemala:
Beneficiary: Social Entrepreneur Corps
Impact Achieved: Interns interviewed local organizations and collected seven new profiles and wrote 12 how-to articles in Spanish on topics such as how to study for an exam, how to create a resume, and how to use a water irrigation system.

Ecuador:
Beneficiary: Asociacion de Mujeres Indigenas Pacha Mama, Chimborazo (Women Artisans)
Impact Achieved:  Interns met with the president of UCA Miraflor, collected and posted information on their mission to support 15 cooperatives located in the Miraflor nature reserve and provided a link to their website that promotes their ecotourism offerings.

Nicaragua:
Beneficiary: Social Entrepreneur Corps
Impact Achieved:  Interns interviewed local organizations and collected 31 new profiles and wrote seven how-to articles in Spanish on topics such as HIV/AIDS prevention, how to write a business plan and how to treat cuts.

Centro ExplorativoCentro Explorativo
is a Community Enterprise Solutions (our sister organization) social innovation. The Centro is an educational initiative located in La Pista, Nebaj in the western highlands of Guatemala. It was designed to provide classes to reinforce what local school children learn in public schools as well as to offer productive afterschool programs such as drama classes and chess leagues.

Typical beneficiaries:
Local youth and students, local teachers


Recent Examples:
Guatemala:
Beneficiary: Centro Explorativo students and teachers

Impact Achieved: Interns worked with teachers to analyze and update their current computer classes including ways to evaluate student progress . They also worked with select students to create a hand-drawn map of La Pista to increase students’ understanding of local and regional geography.
